Th 964 Carrera RS America's was mechanically and structurally identical to the Carrera RS, featuring the same lightweight seam-welded chassis, aluminium hood, reduced-weight door glass, suspension system, braking components, G50/10 transmission, and M64/03 engine. The only differences were US-market requirements: airbags (necessitating power windows), an alarm system, DOT-compliant lighting and bumpers, aluminium wheels, and standard seating instead of the RS's sport seats. Despite these modifications, the cars maintained a significant weight advantage, coming in roughly 200 pounds (90 kg) lighter than a standard US-specification Carrera 2.
