The new W221 model was first unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt International Motor Show and officially released for sale later that same year. This version showcased significant design changes, boasting larger dimensions and three new engines with a remarkable 26% increase in power. The interior has been completely redesigned and upgraded with luxurious materials, while the traditional centre console transmission gear lever has been replaced with a column-mounted shifter. Technological advancements on the W221 include an infrared Night View Assist feature and the latest Mercedes-Benz pre-collision system. The exterior also features sharper styling, including wide fender arcs, and the W221 is only available in a sedan body style, making it the second consecutive generation of the S-Class to adopt this design.
