The Porsche 928 was designed to replace the iconic 911, but its ultimate purpose proved to be vastly different. With four seats, ample luggage space, and a powerful V8 engine under the hood, the 928 quickly established itself as a superior grand tourer to its rear-engined counterpart. Launched in 1978, the 928 made waves and won the prestigious European Car of the Year award. Porsche invested significant resources into the creation of this front-engine, V8-powered coupe, before realising the 911 was a better car which achieved better sales.
