1968 Mercedes Pagoda 280SL - LHD Automatic
1968 Mercedes Pagoda 280SL - LHD Automatic
Description
In 1963, the 230SL received high praise, but its lack of torque from the peaky SOHC six engine was a concern for a car that was on the heavier side due to its sturdy construction and target market. However, the introduction of the 250SL in 1967, equipped with a smoother 7 main bearing engine, was a positive step forward. And in 1968, the 280SL took it a step further with a larger bore, resulting in an increase in torque from 174 lb.ft to 193 lb.ft. While maximum power also saw an increase, it was not as significant: 180 hp compared to 170 at 5700 rpm. The European version saw an even bigger boost with a hotter camshaft, generating 195 hp.
This example has had a long-term ownership history - It has a number matching engine and body. Recent mechanical work and cosmetic work has been done to get this car to present well.
The soft top is in almost new condition with no holes or tears, the rear window is clear.
