Description

Although "SL" stands for Sport Leicht (Sport Light), contemporary reviews quickly made it clear this wasn’t a racing machine. In 1950s testing, Road & Track bluntly remarked, “First, this is not a sports car,” noting that for a 1.9-liter vehicle, its steel monocoque frame made it a bit too heavy to be a true lightweight contender on the track.

However, dismissing the 190SL for not being a race car misses the essence of its charm. It wasn’t designed to set lap records but to deliver open-air touring pleasure. As Mercedes’ famed designer Josef Müller explained, it was built for those who wanted to “cover long distances at high speed in a car that looks very sporty, yet is also highly comfortable.”

This particular 190SL has travelled the world, after being delivered to Canada, it was sold and then exported back to Germany in 2016, then after making a brief stop there, it was brought into South Africa where it remains, the car has been imported correctly and registered on the South African system, it has been on the system for 10 years.

04754kms showing, which we estimate to be 104 754kms.
